Rolling Stones 'Brown Sugar' top on Record Store Day

The Rolling Stones special release of 'Brown Sugar' in its original form as a 7-inch vinyl single was the biggest selling vinyl single for Record Store Day 2011.

In fact, vinyl was a hit for Record Store Day 2011 in the USA according to Nielsen SoundScan sales data.
The Stones 'Brown Sugar' sold 2000 copies last Saturday and all up 27 new vinyl singles released for Record Store Day sold at least 500 copies.

Vinyl singles in the USA last week for Record Store Day week sold 13-times greater than the normal sales week. Vinyl albums had a 220% increase at independent record stores.

The biggest selling vinyl album for Record Store Day was Panda Bear's 'Tomboy'. It sold 7000 units.

14 vinyl albums released for Record Store Day sold 1000 copies or more and 37 albums sold 500 copies or more.

Foo Fighters released 'Medium Rare', a special edition 120 gram Record Store Day exclusive. It sold 2000 copies. They also had the biggest selling album of the week with 'Wasting Light' movong 235,000 units.

Independent Record Stores reported their biggest ever Record Store Day in 2011. Album sales in the USA were up 39% on the previous week.

Record Store Day 2011 was April 16. 2011.
