Oscar Isaac feared Madonna would send him to exercise boot camp

Oscar Isaac feared Madonna would send him to exercise boot camp to prepare for his sex scenes in 'W.E.'.

The actor plays the part of bodyguard Evgeni in the new movie ' a two-tier tale about Britain's King Edward VIII's romance with Wallis Simpson and a modern story about a woman named Wally ' and he admits he was terrified about stripping off for his love scenes with co-star Abbie Cornish because the super-fit singer-turned-director was watching.

Speaking on the red carpet at the UK premiere of his new movie 'Sucker Punch' at the Vue cinema in London's Leicester Square last night (30.03.11), Oscar told BANG Showbiz: ' play a security guard that Abbie's character Wally Winthrop falls in love with. We have a romance. That was one of the more intimidating moments. I had to take my clothes off in front of Madonna. I thought she was going to order me out of the room - 'Get out and get to the gym!' '

Despite his concerns, the 31-year-old hunk had a good time with Madonna ' who has launched her own chain of gyms, entitled Hard Candy Fitness - on set after he got over his initial nerves.

Oscar ' who stars alongside Vanessa Hudgens and Jena Malone in fantasy action movie 'Sucker Punch', which is directed by Zack Snyder ' said: 'Madonna was great. It was intimidating but she's a pretty amazing woman. Is she a diva? I was hoping she would be one. She's actually very self-deprecating and really funny. She's actually very open.'

Other stars to walk the rainy red carpet in London included 'Sucker Punch' cast members Emily Browning and Jamie Chung and future Superman Henry Cavill.

Casey Abrams Redeems Himself On 'American Idol' With 'Your Song'

Abrams initially came into the competition one of the favorites to win it all, though a series of health problems and a couple of bum performances — including last week's train-wreck take on Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" — stalled his momentum to the point where America sent him packing. But the judges threw their weight behind the shaggy-haired soul man, and this week it was up to him to prove they made the right decision.
But first, he had to deal with the fallout from last week's performance. When mentor Jimmy Iovine rolled tape of Abrams' Motown week effort, the singer found it difficult to even watch. "You know what was wrong with that performance?" Iovine asked. Abrams sheepishly replied "some ... things?" while Iovine corrected him: "Everything!" Iovine went on to say Abrams "killed himself" with the Gaye cover, saying he'd lost his way in the competition and needed to refocus.

Producer Rodney Jerkins was just as critical, but had a far more concrete solution to Abrams' problems: "Get rid of the beard." Abrams took Jerkins' advice to heart and took his mug to Baxter Finley, a Los Angeles barber shop, where a team of skilled professionals trimmed his bushy facial fuzz and hacked away at his unkempt hair. The results weren't unveiled until Abrams hit the "Idol" stage, though it wasn't as dramatic as the segment led viewers to believe. Instead, Abrams' look was simply a fresher, cleaner version of the wild man he'd come to be known as — Abrams 2.0, if you will.
His performance was where he really showed his rededication to the competition. Taking on Elton John's "Your Song," Abrams stayed seated and didn't do laps around the studio as he did during Motown week or thrash in place as he did during his risky take on Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" two weeks prior. He dialed himself way back, delivering the song in a comfortable, heartfelt manner and letting the lyrics take over. (Some tabloid reports have tied Abrams to fellow contestant Haley Reinhart, though there was no word whether he was singing the song to his alleged new squeeze.) Eventually, he let out his inner Casey, grunting a few notes near the song's close, but overall it was the most reserved he'd been onstage yet. He delivered a high closing note that noted music scholar Randy Jackson would later identify as a Major 9.
Jackson called the performance "brilliant," "nice" and "tender," while Steven Tyler praised Abrams' range of styles, saying that makes him a "true artist." Jennifer Lopez called the performance "very Casey" and reiterated that the judges made the correct decision by keeping him around. "Along the way, we've had to make some hard decisions and send some really, really great people home, and I've lost sleep over that. But one decision I didn't lose one ounce of sleep over was saving you," she said. "I slept like a baby!"

Let's Talk About: Kate Nash And Shenae Grimes' Heart Face Paint

They aren't as jaw-dropping as face implants (a la Lady Gaga), but the black hearts that British singer/songwriter Kate Nash and 90210 actress Shenae Grimes recently rocked on their cute mugs did grab our attention. Kate painted a medium sized heart on each cheek, while Shenae did a single teardrop-style heart in the corner of her right eye (p.s. it looks like the handy work of waterproof liquid liner). The whole thing sorta reminds us of Gucci Mane's ice cream cheek tattoo. Memba? Ya know, butterflies, flowers, ice cream cones, hearts, balloons, etc.—they fall under that yeah-I-have-a-real/fake-face-tatoo-but-it's-sooooooo-sweet-so-it's-not-scary umbrella. We're still trying to figure out if the hearts are GREAT or just gratuitous. What do you think—do you <3 it?

More Makeup Looks From Katy Perry's 'E.T.' Vid (Peep The Fan Copycats)!

Katy Perry’s upcoming music video for "E.T." features some seriously futuristic and fantastic makeup. The pop star JUST posted NEW photos of some of the alien-esque looks—a bronze spotty creation and a red eye masked number—on her Facebook page, where you have to go immediately to check out the incredible NAILS she's got going on, too.

Meanwhile, she encouraged her fans to try and re-create the blue and pink masterpiece that she leaked last week and that reallyreallyreally reminds us of Avatar's Neytiri. We aren't surprised that KP's loyal legion of followers would copycat the looks, whether at her behest or not. But what shocked us was how freakin' good these average Janes' makeup game turned out to be. GEESH...and here we are struggling to make a straight line with liquid eyeliner, and are maybe way too lazy NOT to just cop the cutout Katy Perry mask. Anyways, the one thing we CAN DO is cast judgment on the creations of others, so check out some of our fave masterpieces below. And if you think you can do better, prove it here.
WINNERS: From the nearly-identical forehead patterns, to the blue-green eyes (real? contacts?), these girls MUST be professional makeup artists. If they aren't, they need to go ahead and switch careers.
RUNNERS-UP: ALMOST. OK, so these girls get an 'E' for effort. The colors are on point, but the eyelines and hairlines are a little unfinished/crooked, and the forehead designs aren't quite faithful to the original.
MOST CREATIVE RENDITION FROM THE ORIGINAL: These looks have little to do with Katy Perry's actual music video steez, but that's what makes them kinda awesome? From yellow flower vines, chest/shoulder/neck paint and spotty hairlines, these freestylers said eff it and interpreted the alien look to their own liking.

If You Have "Animal Companions" (Pets), You Are Guilty Of Animal Cruelty

Jesus! This is going to piss off a lot of my friends and alienate a lot of my followers.

But it has to be said.

Your pets don't need you. Your pets don't "love" you. At best, your pets are addicted to you and you are their enabler.

The symbiotic relationship between primates and canines began somewhere between 10,000 - 2,000 B.C.E.

"During the most recent ice age, from about 20,000 years ago (see Ice Ages), large mammals such as bison roam on the sub-arctic tundra of Europe and Asia. They are preyed upon by two groups of hunters, both much smaller and weaker than themselves - but both with a sufficiently developed social system to enable them to hunt and kill in packs.

These hunters are humans and wolves.

The typical pack of wolves and of humans is surprisingly similar. It it is family-based, led by a dominant male whose female partner is likely to have an authority second only to his. Members of the group are friendly to each other but deeply suspicious of outsiders. All members (not just the parents) are protective of the newly born and the young. Both species are good at interpreting the moods of others in the group, whether through facial expression or other forms of body language.

Legend acknowledges these shared characteristics in stories of children suckled by wolves. The other side of the same coin, in real life, means that wolf cubs adapt easily to life among humans.

For mutual benefit

Humans and wolves are competing for the same prey, but there are advantages for both in teaming up. For the wolf, human ingenuity and the use of weapons mean a share in a greater number of kills - and perhaps even an occasional taste of larger victims, such as mammoth. For humans, the wolf's speed and ferocity is equivalent to a new weapon.

The partnership is natural.

We spent the last 20,000 years cruelly and selfishly breeding survival skills out of our "animal companions" in favor or docility and cuteness.

Canines used to look like this.

Thanks to human "kindness" and our "domestication", now they look like this.

The ancestors of our house cats were more than capable of fending for themselves.

Not anymore.

But here is the thing.

If humans disappeared tomorrow, cats and dogs will be just fine. The teeth, claws, speed and ferocity that allowed canines and felines to survive before we came along and fucked them up will once again rise to the top.

Oh, it will be brutal, there will be much carnage, and many human-contrived species will be eliminated in short order. Dachshunds will go quickly. We bred their legs too short to run from predators.

But the point is, not only do canines and felines not need us, we are actively holding them back and hampering their survival skills by pampering them spoiling them and giving the ridonckulous levels of health care.

I remember walking out into the woods with one of my best friends and one of his favorite, terminally ill, hunting dogs so he could put a merciful bullet into his head to prevent him from suffering.

These days people subject their pets to chemo-therapy, radiation, special diets, artificial limbs, organ transplants, blood transfusions and expensive medications.

Really? Seriously?

Fuck, I'm a human and I don't even want that much intervention.

If I have a painful, in-grown hair? Pull the fucking plug! I have no desire to bankrupt my family to prevent my suffering. I don't care what the ailment is, if the treatment is expensive, long, barbaric and painful? Walk me out into the woods and put a bullet through my head.

You are torturing your animals and needlessly bankrupting yourself with your "kindness".

Let animals be animals.

Put "Mother Nature" back in control and quit buying boats for Vets.

Miley Cyrus Dissing Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black?

In recent interview, Miley Cyrus talks how one should become an artist.
“It should be harder to be an artist. You shouldn’t just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour,” Miley said when asked about singer sensation like Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black, who got their start on the YouTube.
“I don’t lip-sync. I would rather someone say I sang like crap than have people see me lip-sync.”
“I mess up. There you go. But if you live your life trying to be perfect, you don’t really live your life ever.” She told The Daily Telegraph.
Do you think Miley is dissing Justin Bieber or Rebecca Black? or both?

Shania Twain's alleged stalker arrested after being spotted at an awards ceremony

Shania Twain's alleged stalker has been arrested after he was spotted in the crowd at an awards ceremony she was attending.

Dr. Giovanni Palumbo, 50, appeared in court in Toronto yesterday (28.03.11) where he was again ordered to 'stay away' from the singer following an incident the day before when police escorted the man away from the crowd outside of Juno Awards at the Air Canada Centre, where Shania was receiving a place in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Detective Michael Jander said: 'One of her people had spotted him. He said he just wanted to meet her."

The doctor ' who is already forbidden from going within 500 yards of the singer will now stay in jail until at least Friday (01.04.11), when his bail hearing for alleged breaches of previous court orders will be heard.

As Justice of the Peace John Jackson at Toronto's Old City Hall ordered Palumbo to "make no contact with Shania Twain" he laughed and shook his head.

He said: "You are all doing a wonderful job, Your Honour. I am in jail. How can I contact anybody? I am in jail."

Previously the court had heard that Palumbo had sent the singer letters and flowers and turned up at her Muskoka cottage.

However, the charges were withdrawn because Shania was unable to testify in court at that time.

Psychiatric reports on the medic ' who was wearing a Shania t-shirt and carrying a book about her when he was arrested on Sunday (27.03.11) - have previously stated he wants to pursue a romantic relationship with the 'Still the One' hitmaker.

GQ: Racy 'Glee' Photos Are 'Gift That Keeps on Giving'

GQ's controversial nearly-nude pictorial of Glee stars Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele is still delivering dividends for the magazine.
After its website received 33 million pageviews in just a week after posting the racy pics - which the Parents Television Council criticized as "bordering on pedophilia" -- the magazine has announced plans to release never-before-seen video footage from the shoot online. (The site, which launched a year ago, normally gets 2.5 million pageviews for its popular stories within a week; a topless pic of Miley Cyrus posted on Conde Nast-owned Vanity Fair in 2008 got 19 million pageviews in two days.)
“It’s going to be the gift that keeps on giving,” vp, publisher Peter King Hunsinger told Mediaweek Monday.
Mediaweek also points out that Marie Claire's website traffic spiked after one of its bloggers expressed her disgust at watching the stars of Mike & Molly make out, earning 2,724 comments. Read what the creator of the show had to say to THR.

Junos Shocker: Shad K. Beats Drake For Best Rap Recording

TORONTO – Vancouver rapper Shad K. scored a surprise victory over Drake Saturday night by winning the prize for best rap recording on the first night of the Junos, Canada’s music awards. The upset for Shad K. and his third album TSOL came ahead of Sunday night's main award-giving in Toronto, where hip-hop sensation Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, and Justin Bieber are to go head-to-head.
Drake came into the Junos with six nominations; Bieber has four noms.
Indie rockers Arcade Fire won the best alternative album prize for The Suburbs on Saturday; they are contending in a total of five categories.
In all, 32 non-televised Junos were given out Saturday evening. Neil Young took the trophy for best adult alternative album of the year for Le Noise. Fond of Tigers won for best instrumental album, while Matthew Good took the Juno for best rock album and Said the Whale won for best new group.
Elsewhere, Quanteisha Benjamin won for best R&B/soul recording of the year for "Stars", while platinum pop star Katy Perry earned the Juno for best international album for Teenage Dream. And Karkwa took home the Juno for best Francophone album, deadmau5 won for best dance recording, and Johnny Reid received the Juno for best country album.
The Canadian music awards will hand out another eight top-profile trophies Sunday night in Toronto.
Drake will host the Junos telecast, and Bieber is expected to show up in Toronto, and possibly perform, even as he’s on tour. At the same time, Drake was a no-show at a planned Friday press conference in Toronto, which was cancelled on two hours notice.
Junos executive producer John Brunton told the QMI Agency that Drake was busy rehearsing for his hosting gig. “… We didn't have enough rehearsal time here with all the bands that were moving in and out of the building so we had to do a rehearsal off site before he (Drake) comes in to rehearse this section of the program (Saturday) and so that's what the hiccup was all about,” he said.
Speculation on the Twittersphere over Drake’s no-show Friday prompted Juno organizers to issue a press release Saturday with pre-show quotes and video clips. “I am a very proud Canadian. I think that’s why it was a no-brainer for me…I didn’t debate or think about my schedule. It was a clear cut ‘yes’ for me,” Drake said on his decision to emcee the Junos as its youngest-ever host. The main Junos telecast Sunday night will air nationwide on the CTV network.

The 2011 Juno Awards preview

Toronto's notoriously jaded music audiences be damned, the Juno Awards are back.
For the first time in a decade, the annual Canadian-music awards bash returns to Toronto on its 40th anniversary.
While most of the awards will be given out Saturday night in a private ceremony, CTV is telecasting Sunday's big-buzz show from 8 to 10:30 p.m. local time with a repeat at midnight.
Arguably the biggest eight Junos will be awarded Sunday, and many big-name performances and appearances are planned for the sold out Air Canada Centre.
The show will have something for everyone. First and foremost? Hot Toronto-born rapper Drake.
The 24-year-old is hosting and also leads the field with six nominations. Drake has acting chops (Degrassi: The Next Generation anyone?), he's cute and he's got a shy charisma thing going on.
"I think it's fantastic," said Melanie Berry, CEO and president of the Canadian Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences and the Junos.
"I mean, he's a huge superstar. He's very genuine and he's proud to be from Toronto, and he's a proud Canadian. And I think that's a perfect host for our 40th anniversary. We're really excited."
When Drake was named host he said he wanted to bring "youthful energy." Could that mean his pal -- Stratford, Ont. teen-pop sensation Justin Bieber, who's touring Europe and will be in the Netherlands on Sunday -- will make an appearance on the broadcast via satellite? Drake and Bieber share a ton of mutual respect after performing together at last year's Junos in St. John's.
"(Bieber) is presently on tour, and we'll wait to see if there's any interaction with him," hinted Berry.
Another exciting development is the presence of five-time Juno nominees and indie-rockers Arcade Fire of Montreal, who will perform on the show hot off their recent surprise Grammy win for best album, for their critically lauded The Suburbs.
"We're really excited that it's in Toronto because it's close to home," said Arcade Fire's multi-instrumentalist Will Butler down the line from L.A. the day after their big Grammy upset. Will is the brother of frontman Win Butler. "It'll be really a fun weekend, because we have lots of friends and family in that neck of the woods."
Butler said he believes Drake will make a fine host.
"I think he'll do great. He seems like a pretty charismatic fellow. Win was talking to him a little bit, because we're trying to do some sort of basketball tournament in Montreal. It's rare to find Canadians who play basketball."
Other broadcast performers include: quadruple Juno nominees Broken Social Scene, Johnny Reid and Hedley; triple nominee Sarah McLachlan; double nominee Down With Webster; single nominee Chromeo; and a 40th anniversary tribute featuring an all-star ensemble of musical director Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), Blue Rodeo's Greg Keelor, Justin Rutledge, Sarah Harmer, Sarah Slean, The Sadies, City and Colour, and rocker Derek Miller.
"This is a big chance for me," Reid told QMI Agency when the Junos were announced in January, "(to) stand on a stage and be part of something bigger than myself, (to) be part of a Canadian musical fabric that's been woven for decades, to have a small part in that is a very humbling experience."
All that, and Farm Aid founder and Canadian folk hero Neil Young is picking up the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award -- and country-pop superstar Shania Twain will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame.
Young, of course, was originally scheduled to perform at the 2005 Junos in Winnipeg until a brain aneurysm sidelined him.
"Neil is a Hall Of Famer," Berry said. "We had hoped he was to be at the Winnipeg Juno Awards, and unfortunately he had health problems that he wasn't able to there.
"We are so happy that he's accepted, and I really think it means a lot to people that he feels that it's important to come back."
As for the recently remarried Twain, Berry says it's a pleasure to welcome back the host of the 2003 Junos in Ottawa.
"We sold out (the Ottawa show) in 13 minutes," she said.
"Shania was hosting, Nickelback was on, (I thought), 'Oh, great, this is easy! This is what we do every year? OK! Fantastic!' But she did such a great job, and was very charismatic. I think it's really special to have her inducted into the Hall Of Fame this year."

Selena Gomez to Front Disney Version of 'Punk'd'

is following her rumored boyfriend 's footsteps to prank people. While the 17-year-old Canadian singer does it just for fun, the "" cutie will do it as her next job. It is reported that Gomez has signed up to star in a new reality show for Disney Channel which is similar in fashion to MTV's "Punk'd".

"Selena shot the pilot and it's basically like 's old show, Punk'd, but with the Disney kids," a source close to the 18-year-old star tells Hollywood Life via Zap2it. "Selena was having a ton of fun with it. She's a goof ball at heart."

Disney has yet to confirm the news but Zoo Productions, who helps creating the show, says that they couldn't talk about it at this time.

Interestingly, in mid-2010 there have been reports that Justin Bieber would host "Punk'd" reboot. Confirming the possibility, Ashton Kutcher said earlier this year, "I really can't talk about it because everything's sort of in process. It's a possibility that it could be happening. I will not be hosting the show in the future."

It is still unclear whether Selena Gomez-fronted prank show is the same project that was linked to Bieber. The "A Year Without Rain" songstress will end her "Wizards of Waverly Place"-starring gig for Disney with the fourth season.

Rihanna tops the Social 50 in its debut week, followed by Justin Bieber, Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, respectively, to round out the top five.
Serving as a complement to Billboard's existing weekly rankings, the Social 50 chart will tally artists' popularity using a formula blending their weekly additions of friends/fans/followers, along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays on MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and iLike. Data from these sites is gathered and provided to Billboard by social music tracking service Next Big Sound.

The chart's recipe also includes a unique metric that measures the ratio of page views-to-fans/friends on YouTube and MySpace, both of which allow such interactions.  The Social 50 emphasizes friends/fans behavior above other activities, followed by artist page views and song plays. The final ranking also includes a unique metric measuring the ratio of page views to fans.

The chart's inaugural leader Rihanna is coming off a  chart-topping week on the Hot 100 with "Only Girl (In the World)" from her new album "Loud," which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Rihanna has placed two songs atop the Hot 100 in the past four weeks. Her duet with Drake, "What's My Name?," hit No. 1 earlier this month. Rihanna arrives at her No. 1 Social 50 ranking by leading in new friends/fans/followers for the week, while ranking fourth in total page views. Justin Bieber, who lands at No. 2 on the chart, leads all artists in weekly page views.

"The Social 50 provides a weekly snapshot of the artists with whom music fans engage with the most in the social arena, which in today's world is a significant validation of their investment in an act," states Billboard director of charts Silvio Pietroluongo. "The chart is a logical complement to Billboard's other popularity rankings."

"We continue to adapt the way we chart the changing landscape of music," says Billboard Editorial Director, Bill Werde. "The Social 50 is yet another step in the evolution of Billboard and an important response to our changing times.""The volume of online activity that top artists now receive is too big to ignore," says Next Big Sound CEO, Alex White. "We are thrilled that social music activity now receives the same emphasis as the music charts for which Billboard is synonymous."The Social 50 will appear in the print pages of Billboard as well as on billboard.com and billboard.biz on a weekly basis.

Rihanna showing up at this year's Grammy Awards

Rihanna showing up at this year's Grammy Awards: The lineup of performers who will be appearing at this year's Grammy Awards promises to be one of the biggest of all time, and earlier this week the night got just a little more epic with the additions of Justin Bieber, Usher, Muse, Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae, Lady Antebellum, B.o.B and Jaden Smith. That giant list augments the already-booked stars like Eminem, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire and Cee Lo Green (among many others). The producers of the show promise that there will be more names announced in the coming weeks, which will ensure that the show (which will air live on Sunday night, February 13) will be one of the biggest in its five decade-plus history.
But with all those stars already booked, who is missing? That's what we asked the readers of the MTV Newsroom Blog in a poll opened up on Thursday (January 20). After thousands of votes, the choice is clear: The readers desperately want to see Rihanna perform live at the show. She took the number one spot with an overwhelming 51 percent of the total vote — an astounding consensus considering there were 10 possibilities. Drake came in second place with 19 percent, a testament to his lasting impact as a hitmaker and a star.

Deeper down the list, Nicki Minaj snagged nine percent of the vote, which was good enough for third place. The number four spot belonged to Kanye West (who took home six percent), while Ke$ha's five percent earned her fifth place to round out the top five.

Singer Rihanna arrives at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California February 13, 2011.

Country trio Lady Antebellum and Canadian rock band Arcade Fire lit up the Grammy Awards on Sunday, winning key prizes in a ceremony packed with upset victories and a humiliating setback for Eminem.

The hip-hop star, who led the field with 10 nominations and had been expected to dominate the ceremony, ended up with just two awards in the rap field.
Lady Antebellum, on the other hand, picked up five prizes, including song and record of the year. It marked the second consecutive year that a country act dominated the event, after Taylor Swift grabbed the Grammy glory in 2010.
Arcade Fire denied Lady Antebellum a clean sweep by winning the event's top prize, album of the year. In a year dominated by pop, R&B and hip-hop acts, few pundits had given the defiantly independent Montreal band any chance of taking the top prize. Moreover, the band lost two earlier races.
They were so shocked to hear their name called by presenter Barbra Streisand that they delivered an unscheduled performance to close the show.
The band was honored for its album "The Suburbs," which topped the U.S. and Canadian charts last year without the support of a major label. It was the first time a rock band had won the award since U2 in 2005.
TEARS OF JOY
The members of Lady Antebellum said they were left in tears backstage by their unexpected wins, which also included three awards in the country field, all generated by their album "Need You Now."
"We'll probably never have one of these moments ever again in our career," said singer Charles Kelley. "You're not going to win five Grammys ever again. We know that, we're realistic. So we're gonna try to soak it up."
The winner of the best new artist prize was also a shock, as American bassist Esperanza Spalding took the honor over a pair of red-hot Canadian idols. Justin Bieber and Drake went home empty-handed after two and four nominations respectively.
Spalding told reporters that she hoped Bieber's fervent fans would not be too aggrieved by their hero's losses.
"When this is all over we're all colleagues again, just like we were before," she said. "He's unquestionably a talented young man. He's going to do lots more things in the future, and his fans will be getting lots more CDs to sink their teeth into."
Spalding, 26, was the first jazz artist nominated for best new artist in 35 years. But she is not exactly a newcomer, having released her breakthrough album in 2008.
Flamboyant pop singer Lady Gaga and rapper Jay-Z won three awards each, both of them beating Eminem along the way.
Lady Gaga was honored for her album "The Fame Monster," and received two awards for her song "Bad Romance." Jay-Z's haul included a pair in the rap field for his duet with Alicia Keys on "Empire State of Mind," a love letter to New York.
Eminem received Grammys for best rap album ("Recovery") and rap solo performance ("So Afraid"). Riding a natural high after a successful comeback album recounted his near-fatal struggle with addiction, he had been expected to win favor with the 12,000 music industry insiders who vote for the Grammys.
He has now lost the album of the year category three times, and has yet to win an award for record or song of the year. His career haul stands at 13.
The event honored artists in 108 categories. Other multiple winners included classical producer David Frost with four awards; British guitarist Jeff Beck and soul singer/songwriter John Legend with three each; and Keys, R&B singer Usher, and rock band the Black Keys with two each.

Carrie Underwood wins country music's top award

Underwood, a small-town Oklahoma girl who first shot to fame only five years ago on TV's "American Idol," became the first woman to win Entertainer of the Year twice -- firmly taking her place among country music's greats. She was also given a special Triple Crown award for having already won three top awards -- new artist, female vocalist and entertainer of the year -- during her short career.
Carrie Underwood was named country music's top entertainer for the second year in a row on Sunday and Miranda Lambert won three awards, including best album, as the two young women ruled the once male-dominated Academy of Country Music Awards.

"Thank you God, praise the Lord," an exuberant Underwood, 27, said from the stage at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas during a show broadcast live on CBS and hosted by Reba McEntire. "Thank you country music, God bless you country music."
Underwood's win comes just months after 20-year-old Taylor Swift was named entertainer of the year at the rival Country Music Awards, and she said backstage that it was a big night for women in country music.
"It's not just (Taylor and I), it's Miranda, she was all over the place tonight, and Reba who always continues to show us how it's done," Underwood said. "There are many beautiful, strong, extremely talented women making headlines left and right and I'm just so honored to be with them."
'THANKS FOR LOVING IT'
Lady Antebellum also had a lot to celebrate, winning top vocal group to snap a seven-year streak by Rascal Flatts. The Nashville-based trio's huge crossover hit "Need You Now," which spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard country chart, won for both best song and best single.
Lambert, 26, was named top female vocalist and given the prestigious award for best album for "Revolution," as well as taking home the best video prize for "White Liar."
"This music is what I do, it's the only thing I live for, thanks for loving it," Lambert said in accepting the best album trophy. Backstage, she seemed to be still stunned, telling reporters: "Are you freaking kidding me? I'm completely shocked. I don't even know what to say. That came out nowhere for me."
Underwood and Lambert kicked off the show, opening with an impassioned version of Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1970 rocker "Travelin' Band." They were joined for a verse by former Creedence leader John Fogerty.
Underwood competed for the fan-voted Entertainer of the Year against a field that includes a larger number of eight nominees, including veteran Kenny Chesney, who won it four years in a row until she snapped his streak in 2009.
Last year, Underwood became only the seventh woman to take the award.
Brad Paisley was named top male vocalist for the fourth year in a row and Brooks & Dunn, who have announced that they will split up after a farewell tour, won for best vocal duo. Luke Bryan was give the best new artist award.
