If they souped up a 13.3" MB enclosure, wouldn't it require a serious overhaul of the appropriate internals, especially ditching the integrated graphics for a dedicated solution? (Not that Jonathan Ive & Co would have much of a problem making it happen.) Before I went to the recently opened Apple Store in Norfolk, VA, I might have considered a 13.3" MBP. But after having played around with the 17"... I'm in love. When Tuesday cometh, I'll be ordering a 17" MBP... merom or yonah. From all the shipping delays, merom is looking more hopeful all the time!
Preach it, brutha! I was always hooked on the MBP, but my original idea was for the 15" version. After going to the apple store a few times, the 17" is the one I can't do without. Especially considering it's going to be a desktop replacement for my tower PC, I'll take all the screen space I can get. Add to that the fact that because it's footprint is larger, heat dissipates a little more efficiently, and I was sold. As soon as those C2D MBP's hit the street, I'm there, cash in hand.

Also, this illustrates one of the more elegant aspects of the design of the TomTom car kit, which is it allows for one-handed insertion. With ordinary mounts like Navigon's, you have to first connect the iPhone to the charger -- a two-handed operation -- and then put it in the mount.
Just a side note to all the discussion in this thread. I just searched the Navigon site for the European Version of the iPhone mount and the price to buy it is 39.95 Euros + VAT charges = 44.90 Euros (or $67.48), and does not count the shipping charges. At $67, it makes the purchase of the TomTom Car Kit at $87 an amazing deal. The Navigon kit is only the windshield mount and a charging cable.

I can only see the Macbook Air and maybe the Mac Mini move to ARM. ARM Processors are not ANYWHERE fast enough to meet the current Quadcore i-Processors on the speed.

Too early i think for 10.4.8, replace it with iTunes 7 and i think your set ;)

Me thinks WWDC will be great for us. Apple only presents max 3 major items on a keynote and has now already introduced, more series on iTunes, the educational iMac and a wireless mouse. So greater (pro?) news must be ready for the conference.

I am a current VZW Blackberry Tour customer. I'm currently eligible to upgrade to iPhone 4 (Verizon has gone well out of its way to make me aware of this). My patience has truly been tested, as I've been assuming all along that iPhone 5 would be coming out in June.

apple needs to introduce a computer which is between the mac mini and the mac pro tower.
I want a mini tower, with 2 pci slots. you know something in the price range of $899-999 usd.
where i can upgrade the graphics card or order it with a better graphics card.

Actually, no, I believe it's more along the lines of an example of success breeding lots and lots and lots of admiring / eager people who want to attend their exclusive product showcases, and their resorting to excluding some people to keep such events from turning into crazed circuses.

Let me know how loud the volume is during a call conversation. If it is significantly louder than the TomTom, I may jump ship and get the Megellan unit.
So hear's my initial sense of the Magellan kit. I like it better than the TomTom kit for two simple reasons..first, it is rock solid when I drive around no matter how bumpy the road is. Instead of the tiny clicks on the TT, it has simple detents at 12-3-6-9 and it locks in solid. Second, is the fact that I can just put my iPhone in with the case on makes it far more convenient. I didn't think this would be such a big deal, but in fact I'm in and out of the car a lot so its a significant benefit. The speaker is loud and clear, but I don't think its louder than the TomTom...about the same.
I'll let you know more as I use it for awhile!

Is it because iOS is so widely adopted, understood and familure? It shouldn't make sense, not to a power user. A power user is someone who deals with 1' and 0's every other, other every day. 1 +1 =2, thats true today, tomarrow and so on so forth. iPad is a anomoly, despite other higher powered, more flexable options its really the only name in the game. The human factor is what comes into factor, its a ameoba, a never ending algorithim of DNA that changes at will, and is persuaded just as easily. Its this Human factor that the iPad is what it is. Somehow Apple's best service is taming the human factor, its something in the DNA of the company that makes its products sell as they do. This annoys power users and lots of Apple Haters, it doesn't make sense, it shouldn't make sense. But outside of motherboards, 1+1=2 doesn't mean much when humans are involved.

hmm, just checked the Apple Edu Store (UK) and i noticed the 20" iMac was a 5-7 day. Checked the standard Store, same thing. Wonder if that means they may put the Merom/Conroe in a 20" and keep the yonah in the 17?

It might become more apparent with the equation:
48/2(9+3)(1+4)+33-47/3(sin(45))
Surely we should not interpret everything following the first division symbol as belonging in the denominator, including an additional fraction. As Wolfram Alpha interpreted, I intended for my equation to be read as:

I agree. Given the last Ford we purchased leaked and after 6 months of trying to fix it, the Ford dealer said "well, everything leaks" and said they'd give a good deal on it to trade it in if we wanted. And the last GM we had stalled every morning when you were pulling out on to the road and the dealer said that it was "just the way the car was made," and could never fix it I wouldn't buy an American made car unless they started getting good reports both for quality upfront (they just sound cheap compared to a Honda, Mercedes, Lexus, Porsche, or Toyota) and for quality over 5-6+ years of ownership. And the previous American made cars we had were of similar low quality.
So for the last 11 years, I've been buying non-American. It is too bad, but the quality is not there. I even looked at one with a friend in November and it was the same deal.
An iPhone made in the US would be double the price due to high taxes and regulation. Quality, who knows, but the cost would be prohibitive compared to everyone else. It would be the fastest way for Apple to kill itself. If Apple *could* do it, they would, but it is impossible.

Up until about a year or so ago, Cingular used to have the worst network. And the Verizon network was mint. Great signal everywhere on earth and never lost a call. Now I have to try every call 4 times before it goes through. I'd rather see Apple buy up another carrier and own them. How much does a small cellular carrier cost to buy? :-)

Hard call. I like the idea that I would not have to remove my case to use the Magellan, but that's all I like about the look of it. It looks cheaper to me and I'm guessing we would be waiting until the end of January, or later, before the price would start to drop from $130. From viewing the many Youtube videos on the TomTom car kit it seems pretty great for $90.

I checked the store after I saw this. 17'' BTO ship in 5-7 business days, so that is the 25-27th. 15'' ship in 1-3. All stock models ship in 24 hours.
For as long as I can remember, it has never taken that long for BTO, even durning the back to school rush.
