I'm sure many people have asked this throughout the thread already, but is it worth it for me, if I've been waiting all summer, to continue waiting possibly into the start of school (I'm a freshman entering college) for the release of Merom in MB/MBP? My classes start Sept. 11th, but I don't know how long I'd survive without a computer.
Do you guys foresee the release of Merom before that date?:confused:

Yes,
Android takes over greater share of the market, while Apple retains the bulk of the revenues / profits.
Just as Apple retains a small slice of the PC market while selling over 60% of $1,000+ computers, they will maintain superior revenues/profits no matter how "small" their share of the telecom market turns out to be.
Ideal, as Apple stock prices might temporarily drop in price while their EPS continues to sky-rocket.

I just ordered this on ebay from BUY and it cost 13.99 plus 8 bucks shipping, for new unopened unit. A great deal if you ask me. Its less than the other mounts you find and i think it will work great.
*edit* I did a web search and found that Arkon sells a general purpose friction mount that could most likely be used with the Tom-Tom mount:

Or it's just an Ipod with phone functionality (whatever the looks), and will cost 399.00. No contract, no lock in. Apple buyers already spend that money on hardware, and you can probably a pretty noce phone for that amount. So, why do you think it will be locked in with a carrier for x years? there is no need for, as they are not going after the commodity (100.00 and less) market on this. If they did, would be a big mistake.

I find I am getting a hissing noise when hooked up using car speakers for playing music. It's a new cable and I have no idea if it's the car connection; the car kit; or the cable.
Hoping to get car kit for Xmas, but i'm not suprised by 'noise' coming through the 'line out' ... when a device cradle has antennae (GPS) / broadcast (bluetooth) electronics near by they can interfere. (my other experience with this is a portable XM radio w/ cradle holder - and could never get line out to not his, had to use fixed mount to car antennae for best transfer of sound).
Hopefully others are not having this problem, and you can exchange as defect.

Looks like the extra one gig from Apple is $300 and what appears to be the same ram from Crucial is $202. If you go into the custom config screen for a Mac Pro there is a drop down box that explains the memory requirements. In the box there is a caution about some sort of fancy memory heat sink Apple uses that is not on other memory modules. That kind of scared me, so I just went with the Apple memory upgrade. For the extra $98 I figured it was not worth the chance of Crucial memory not working properly.
I see on Newegg there is a Kingston module with the right specs, and the picture looks like there is a heat sink attached... but who knows if it is like the one Apple specifies.

Is it possible to order online and pick up in a specified store when available?
This would be the most convinient way for me to purchase when the new MBP's come out.

Has anyone ever considered that the media mac would not be a hardware upgrade to the mini but a software one via itunes 7

I think you need both. I can't imagine that Apple want us to get a DVR on top of a Media Mac, so a Mediad Mac should have a built in TV-tuner. I wouldn't be surprised if this gadget also double as an Airport Extreme.

For all who are saying Merom is not necessarily better..64 bit who needs it/no apps for it....marginally faster....waste of time waiting for it. We know we dont NEED it but we still WANT it.
Think of your cellphones they have tons of features most of us hardly use but we still like the fact that we have those features should we need em. Its ancient geek behaviour we want the best/fastest/superior no matter how marginal or ridiculously illogical/impractical.

I was at a local apple store and they are selling the tom tom car kit already. What a rip off, because you have to pay for the app seperate. I got the griffin car mount for $20 at frys and the navigon app, works great.

My house is not wired for ethernet. Which means, I would have to snake a wire through 3 floors, drill holes in the ceiling, etc etc. Its sooo much easier just to have airport. I have 3meg internet service and I cannot tell a difference between wired and wifi. My wireless will hit ~10mb/s transfer if I'm moving a large file from one computer to another. Obviously, that 10mb/s is faster then my 3meg internet service. My internet service is the bottleneck, not the wireless. Therefore....no difference in speed.
Second, I have BT keyboard, mouse, and phone. I use BT all the time. Sure, I can just order the option. However, that means I cant just run to my local apple store and pick up a Mac Pro. Its absolute crap that a ~$600 Macmini has these options standard, and yet Apples $4000 top of the line machine doesnt. Unacceptable.
I couldn't agree with you more. I'm almost in the exact same situation you're in and it doesn't make sense to me either. I've always felt the pro machine should incorporate everything a consumer model carries, plus pro features.
However, they're still pretty slick machines and I'm looking forward to getting one.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm almost in the exact same situation you're in and it doesn't make sense to me either. I've always felt the pro machine should incorporate everything a consumer model carries, plus pro features.

I would love one and would buy a tablet from apple if they came out with one. I take notes on all sorts of stuff, and its not efficient to scan my scribbles into a computer. I'm not a fast typer and frankly typing is harder on my hands than writing. As far as PDA's go they are not bad but the screens are too small for me and dont seem powerful enough (my experience with a dell axim).
I've been tempted by PC tablets, but they are often underpowered, limited to 14" screens, and fragile. I think if you got rid of these issues they would be a good all in one solution as opposed to the hybrid laptop/handheld that tablets are now which seems to combine the worst of both worlds.
Will apple release this? Only if they can find an angle, to convince consumers to buy it. It does seem like wishful thinking...:(

So then you can't speak to whether or not it would actually be cost effective for the country to switch.

Switching to metric is short-term pain for long-term gain. Older people will need have both measures used for a few years. Some Engineers etc will need to hit the books again (but let's face it - if they can learn the formula's once, they can look up the "translation". It's not like they forget how the principles work).
The long-term advantages are:
1) Less freaking-out of kids who are weak in math. "If you have a stick that is 3' 7 13/16" and need to divide it into 3 equal sections, what is the length of the each section to the nearest 1/64 inch?" as opposed to "If you have a stick that 1233 mm long....." - and no, I didn't check to see if they are the same -
2) Same idea as above.... "If you have a tank filled with 450 cubic yards of water, and it is flowing out at a rate of 3 gallons a minute, how long does it take to empty?" as opposed to the metric system where 1000 litres of water is 1 cubic meter which is 1 tonne (approximately - since altitudes and temperatures affect the density of water).... but it's close enough for horseshoes....
3) Manufacturing. As the last industrialized country in the world still non-metric, do people really believe that there isn't a cost when a US factory has to retool to provide a product for export? Or understand that the cost of goods being imported from off-shore includes the cost of retooling for an non-metric customer? Do people not think that some small factories in the US have lost contracts to off-shore customers because they couldn't afford to switch to a metric size? And that some US factories have probably been forced to retool anyway when the sole supplier of a component wouldn't make a special run of non-metric fasteners?
Just asking. The days when the USA was top of the heap in manufacturing are past. The USA is now competing head to head with the rest of the world that has left behind bolts that are 3/16 diameter and 1 7/8 long and 12tpi.

I doubt we'll see Core 2 Duo machines next Tuesday, but it's possible. :rolleyes:

I don't think we'll see these at WWDC unless there are other substantial changes. Going from a Yonah to a Merom chip may be great news, but it's hardly something Steve can crow about on stage. You already know all about the macbook pro, so there's really nothing else for me to say, is there?"
I expect we will see mac pros and leopard demo'ed at WWDC, plus the usual talk about how well apple is doing, etc. Maybe some talk about pro apps because it's a developer's conference. MAYBE a new ipod (nano) just because it's such big news, even tho it's not really for developers.
But as far as new MBPs go, I'd expect a quiet announcement some tuesday in the relatively near future.

The answer is 288. Anyone who think's it is two doesn't know math.
They know math, just not the order of operations. Or they are putting the whole equation into a scientific calculator, Google, or spotlight. If they did the problems in a calculator, google or spotlight with the correct order of operations, then theyd get the correct answer.
